The New York Vocal Collective is a professional-level multi-genre choir specializing in pop, jazz, and R&B. We are the first ensemble of our kind in the United States—a large group singing primarily pop, primarily a cappella at a professional level. We hope to be the first of many, to inspire others to create more ensembles throughout the country.
Our 48 auditioned members come from a from all over New York City and beyond. They sing in the ensemble on a volunteer basis, and while many are professional musicians, others have careers in music, theater, education, law, journalism, medicine, and more! We strive to bring together a diverse group of professional level singers from disparate vocal traditions, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, identities, and careers. In our short existence, we have already become a thriving artistic community.
We will put on two concerts per year, as well as three Community Sing events, where anyone from the community can come sing with our ensemble. Our concerts will feature some of the most exciting vocal arrangements across multiple genres, as well as many original arrangements specifically arranged for the ensemble. Each concert will also include an acoustic set featuring some brilliant solo performers and small groups from our ensemble, showcasing their own original music.
In the future we hope to travel and tour, record our own albums, collaborate with other artists and disciplines, and continue creating community through music.
