NK&D stands for Nicole Kadar and Dancers. The creative process Nicole uses is collaborative. She feels the dancers shape the piece and the company. NK&D / a movement company creates dance to physically express the human condition through choreography that displays relationships in athletic movement. Through these works NK&D/ a movement company hopes to inspire the audience to think more about the values of being human.
Artistic Director, Nicole Kadar, firmly believes the way to move society forward is with thought-provoking conversation and self reflection, which then can lead to questions and creation. Those creations can be ever so small - a hug, a thank you, eye-contact... Creations can also be large - protests, dances, instillations, political policies.
Nicole also believes teaching children dance can help to create a more caring, social, democratic, critically conscious society. Appreciation, respect, care, consideration, honesty, love, and creativity are all values that every person should have no matter his/her occupation. Not all students will become dancers, but values and lessons taught in dance will allow them to be better communicators, community members, and citizens of society. Education outreach performances and workshops will offer students insight to the dance making process. Dance classes will introduce to students ways of self-care for their physical, emotional, and spiritual selves, while simultaneously teaching them conflict resolution skills, appreciation, respect, honesty, and care through collaborative activities.
Dance education is more than teaching students about movement and composition; it is about helping students discover who they are and how their unique self contributes to society. Through education outreach programing with visits to various NYC public schools and invitation to performances NK&D will work toward this mission of creating a more caring, conscious society through tools learned in dance classes.
