“Noir” is a new music and public engagement project led by trumpeter and composer Hermon Mehari. Rooted in jazz, Black American musical traditions, Eritrean cultural memory, and contemporary song, the project explores themes of darkness, identity, memory, beauty, and transformation.
The project brings together artists from Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, France, and the Eritrean diaspora through composition, collaboration, studio creation, and public presentation. The completed work will be shared through a released recording, live performances, listening events, and artist/community conversations that invite audiences into the cultural stories and creative process behind the music.
