Founded in 1980 by Samuel Magad, former Chicago Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster, the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra (NSO) has been a prominent member of the Chicago classical music scene for the past 44 years.
Today the orchestra is led by Music Director, Mina Zikri, an internationally renowned conductor. In 2021, Robert Chen, current Chicago Symphony Concertmaster, became Artistic Creative Partner to the Northbrook Symphony. Mr. Chen advises the orchestra on programming and performs as soloist during one of the concerts each season.
Engaging audiences of all ages, the 2023- 24 season consists of a family theatrical symphonic concert, two two-generation family duos, two young performers- a prominent young musical award recipient and an internationally acclaimed violinist and a concert featuring works of Mexican composers.
The NSO focuses on families, particularly children, by re-envisioning the family concert experience, encouraging concert attendance by youth and supporting their musical development. The Orchestra offers complimentary admission to youth ages 7-18 and families from under resourced communities.
The NSO collects musical instruments for youth in under resourced communities enabling these students to learn how to play a musical instrument. Learn more at www.northbrooksymphony.org.
