OH MY SON
A Sacred Music Tableaux, in two acts: Adapted from the story, symbol & doctrine of the Nativity & the Passion.

The Work was premiered at Carnegie Hall on April/10/2010.

Adapted from accounts of the Nativity and the Passion in the Gospels, Oh, My Son tells the resounding story of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus of Nazareth. The Tableaux approaches the theology of Jesus and Mary from a delicately humanistic perspective. Though Christ resigns himself to Gods will, he is emotionally overwhelmed by fear in the face of his death and his Father's seeming abandonment. Mary is, similarly, envisioned as a concrete woman, a mother who, when tested by her God, struggles and suffers before making her pilgrimage of faith. Indeed, Jesus and Mary, both, participate in the suffering of the world: Jesus in death, Mary in grief. It would be vain, however, to interpret the cross as merely penal; the parable of the cross, in all its dimension's violence, betrayal, compassion, faith is a heartbreaking act of love. Christ crucified, and risen, illustrates an almost inconceivable transformation of humanity: What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable It is sown a physical body, it is raised a spiritual one.
