olives & sheep is a map-based research portal linking data and documentation to geo-points, starting in the Occupied West Bank. We are a constantly growing database of reports matched to places from an array of mainstream and niche sources. Our database can be deployed on a map to reveal a variety of perspectives on actual places. Clicking around the map allows users to see recurring phenomena, and ideally, begin to envision viable, future possibilities, grounded in spatial and historical context, and local community needs.
We are public tool for advocacy, journalism and education, uncensored by big media or donors.
olives & sheep relies upon established and vetted data leaders in the field, primarily UN-OCHA, B'Tselem and Open Street Maps for our base layers. Further, we collect data and documentation matched to places from a wide array of publications, from Al Jazeera to Zeteo, and across the political spectrum, including social media posts from activists, academics and grassroots communities.
We are an educational resource intended for everyone interested in deeper place-based learning. We hope you will engage with our products towards collective visioning-- and actualizing, a better future for all of us in Historic Palestine and the world.
