ORH Dance brings the excitement of a new modern dance company founded on the principles of passion, excellence, and professionalism to the Charlottesville area.
Olivia Rivard Hill, company founder and director, sees a dance landscape open with possibilities and opportunity.
About the Artistic Director:
Olivia Rivard Hill is a choreographer, dancer and movement specialist. Since re-locating to the Charlottesville area in 2017 she has become a part of the dance community and moved towards a vision of establishing a Modern Dance company. She has created project based dance works as a Resident Artist of McGuffey Arts Center, served on faculty at Charlottesville Ballet (2017-20), UVA Lifetime Physical Activity Dept (2017-18) and Artistic Director (2020-2024) at Cumulus Dance, founding The Move Studio (2019). Her work has fueled collaborations with musicians, choreographers, conceptual artists in Charlottesville, uplifting the art of dance to the wider community.
With this inaugural season in 2025-2026, ORH Dance will present public performances, open rehearsals and collaborative projects; Haunting to Healing (fall 25), Open Winter Performance (winter 25), The Invitation (winter 26) Spring Choreographers Showcase (spring 26). Employing 6 dancers, engaging designers, technicians, and choreographers while enlivening performance spaces.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps us build a more sustainable, artist-centered future in dance. Your tax deductible donation directly supports:
- Fair pay for professional dancers and choreographers-dancers receive both rehearsal pay and performance stipends
- Rehearsal and performance space rental-ORH Dance is a resident of McGuffey Arts Center under the Resident Status of it's director Olivia Rivard Hill
- Costumes and production design-ORH Dance procures the majority of it's costuming secondhand or by donation as part of it's 'Green Performance Practices Initiative"
- Community outreach and audience engagement-ORH Dance is committed to bringing open dance events to it's McGuffey studio location as well as at community events.
- Company Management-ORH Dance begins it's inaugural season with a small staff, some volunteer and uses donations to cover administrative costs.
As with all performing arts organizations, ticket sale revenue covers only a part of operating expenses.
