Paul Mullin is launching an ambitious new project: a full cast audio adaptation of his latest novel, One Cherry Deep.
It’s a story set in a Seattle that can’t remember itself—where forgetting is a civic condition, and where a woman named Deep discovers that storytelling might be the only thing keeping her from slipping into homelessness.
In a city of amnesia, you’re homeless without stories.
To bring this world to life, Paul is teaming up with acclaimed Seattle theatre director David Gassner to record the book with a cast of 40 local actors, each voicing the hundreds of characters who populate the novel’s surreal, theatrical landscape. This isn’t a one person audiobook—it’s an ensemble production, built with the same spirit that has fueled Seattle theatre for decades.
And here’s the heart of it:
Every actor will be paid the same above minimum wage hourly rate. No favors. No “just do it for exposure.” No cutting corners. Just fair pay for artists doing their art.
That means the project requires a significant—but absolutely achievable—community investment.
If you believe in Seattle artists, in ensemble storytelling, in paying performers what they’re worth, or simply in the power of a good story told well, this is your chance to help make something extraordinary.
