The U.S. Army’s storied 10th Mountain Division is best known for its role in World War II, when it fought for control of key battlegrounds in Italy. Since 9-11, the division has been equally instrumental, often deploying to the most violent corners of the War on Terror. However, today's 10th Mountain Division soldiers often fight and die with little recognition from the public.
Rueben "Boy" Lopez, a 26-year-old from rural Northern California, is one of many soldiers who never returned from the division’s operations in Afghanistan. Through the voices of his platoon mates and family members, “Our Boy in Kandahar” tells the story of his life and death near a remote village, shedding light on a slow, brutal battle that seared the memories of veterans and altered the lives military families and communities nationwide.
