OUR GUYS is a feature documentary half-way through production. It is a story about five New England mothers who find each other in the early 1970s when they bring their babies with Down syndrome and autism home from the hospital to a landscape that has little to offer in terms of medical, social or educational support.
We have a dedicated team and have been shooting for three years - sometimes with a crew and sometimes with just our iPhones. We are so excited to be planning for our next FULL-CREW shoot in July, so we can continue sharing these important stories. The clock is ticking. We are halfway through and now we need your help.
This campaign will raise needed funds to cover production costs such as
insurance, legal, travel, equipment and skilled crew in order to continue filming the Boston-based families in our story.
Our story is an
An historical account of parenting children with disabilities over the last fifty years
A call to action to raise awareness about the needs of caregivers and ongoing struggle for inclusion for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism.
We explore the specific journeys of the families in our film, as well as the ongoing struggles of the next generation of families in several communities beyond the South Shore of Boston.
As we take an in-depth look at how far we have come, we also want to shine a light on the continuing need for inclusion, understanding and support not only for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism but for their caregivers as well.
When you support this film, you are helping to share stories that create a more inclusive world. When you support this film, you are supporting female filmmakers and working film mothers. When you support this film you are part of our team.
