About

Raising Us is a feature documentary six years in the making, following a group of extraordinary Massachusetts mothers who raised children with Down syndrome and autism.

Now in their 70s and 80s, they look back on five decades of caregiving and advocacy with candor, humor, and unshakable resolve. Their stories reveal a quiet revolution fought by the first generation of parent advocates that helped reshape disability rights—one fought in kitchens, classrooms, town halls, and board rooms.

They continue to be a lifeline for their adult children, guides for other parents, and a source of strength for each other as they navigate this final chapter in parenting: planning for their childrens’ futures after they are gone.

This film aims to highlight the true power of parent advocacy and has the potential to be an effective tool for programming, raising awareness, and inspiring meaningful parent advocacy.

We are in the critical final phase of post-production and are working to raise $150,000 to complete the film, prepare it for release, and share it with the world by the end of 2025.

We are looking for partners, seeking all forms of support and financial backing. We appreciate your being a part of making this important film so we can share it with communities across the country.
