Abbot Kinney's Venice of America, the "Coney Island of the Pacific", lining the coast of Los Angeles beginning in the late 1800's until the 1970's final extinction of the great amusement pier Pacific Ocean Park, is an enigma encountered by few living Americans who have hazy memories of whimsical attractions and dance ballrooms hovering above the Pacific Coast. Occasional illegal business practices and a local power play would ultimately cause the demise of this last great beachside amusement destination.
This loosely poetic and somewhat free-associative film relays a fascinating LA history through photography and animation, opening with fire and destruction and ending with the serene potential of the dawn of a new era.
