My most recent series of pastel abstractions are based on the ominous poem "The Second Coming", written in 1921 by W.B.Yeats. Yeats' lines “things fall apart, the center cannot hold” began to haunt me following the political upheaval of the past few years and also the increasing dangers to the planet due to climate change. Because of what I have to communicate, getting exposure for my art work and creating an installation that includes recording of lines from the poem is extremely important. Poetry inspires my visual art. My previous series of studio work was also in response to poetry about climate change. Within the grounding structure of a predetermined palette, my process is to follow the urgings of the unconscious. I create subtle transitions and shifting figure ground relationships to engage the imagination and the unconscious
