Pardon Me While I Blaze Some Trails is a mixed media art installation showcasing ten trailblazing women throughout history.
Through painting and collaging canvases, life sized female mannequins and other 3D objects using material relevant to the women whose stories i'm sharing, I aim to create a visual storytelling experience that’s entertaining and sparks a curiosity in the viewer, motivating them to delve deeper into learning more about these awesome trailblazing women.
Your contribution will enable me to purchase the materials I need, arrange an art opening in Los Angeles for the fall of 2019 and promote the show.
My list of trailblazers thus far:
Dorothy Parker
Writer and one of the founders of the Algonquin round table.
MumBet/Elizabeth Freeman
One of the first slaves to sue for her freedom and WIN.
Dorothy Arzner
The first, and only, female film director of her time.
Sarah Breedlove/Madam C.J. Walker
One of the first self made African-American women millionaires.
Tao Porchon-Lynch
100 year old yoga teacher
(still living, doing yoga, ballroom dancing and has an Instragram account!)
Hannah Höch
Artist during the DaDa period, inventor of the photomontage.
Corinne Michael West
Abstract artist who also went by the name, “Michael West” because being a woman kept her out of galleries.
If you should decided to contribute to my project I will keep you updated on my process.
I'm also taking suggestions for a few more women to profile so feel free to reach out!
Thanks so much for being a patron of the arts!
