Parly Cloudy People is a theater arts company in NYC that works with non-profits and education groups whose mission statements align with a play or artist salon we want to produce. Our productions and salons explore the human condition, complete with its flaws and the potential to grow and heal. We believe in fostering new talent, diverse casting, and creating theater as means to both educate and entertain.
Partly Cloudy People is currently producing a monthly outdoor artist salon at Jill Lindsey in Brooklyn. Each month we host a diverse group of artists to share completed works or work in development in a safe, Covid-cautious environment. The salon benefits a different non-profit each month.
Past full length productions include a collaboration with The Seedling Company to create an interview based play inspired by the true stories of women and their partners as they navigate the choices surrounding pregnancy. We examined the enormous crossroads women face when deciding to raise a baby, have an abortion or give the child up for adoption. We wondered: if we create a platform to share our stories, might we take comfort in each other and feel empowered to claim our decisions without fear of judgement? The results from our personal interviews culminated in a full length production of The Seedling Project and brought together a diverse set of writers and actors to tell important stories surrounding choice.
We also collaborated with The Ackerman Institute for the Family on our full length production of "Tigers Be Still," by Kim Rosenstock. This play examines family depression. In addition, we produced "Dolores," by Edward Alan Baker and partnered again with Ackerman, who helped educate and empower our audiences regarding the complicated issue of domestic violence.
