PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK is a new musical about the unexplained disappearance of three schoolgirls and a teacher on Valentine's Day 1900, and the ripple effect on the lives of those left behind.
Moving between the elite Appleyard College for Young Ladies and the striking landscape of Hanging Rock (known by its traditional language groups as Ngannelong), the mystery has captivated people since the book's publication in 1967. It has been adapted in various forms (notably Peter Weir's film), creating a ripple effect of its own.
The iconic Australian New Wave film by Peter Weir has its 50th anniversary this year (and accordingly receiving a major, global re-release) which is why we are aiming to have the first production of our musical in 2025.
The musical had a concert presentation in 2024 at Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater featuring Katrina Lenk, Lorna Courtney, Helen J Shen, Taylor Trensch, Allie Trimm, Lauren Molina, Pearl Sun and others and will have an orchestration workshop followed by a presentation on May 15, 2025 at Lincoln Center, featuring new orchestrations by Todd Sickafoose (Tony and Grammy Award-winner for "Hadestown").
