About

Piehole is an NYC theater collective, founded in 2008. Our work has been praised by The Village Voice as “exhilarating” and by the The New York Times for its "unexpected beauty and...gratifying weirdness." Drawing from a shared fascination with objects and media, we strive to awaken a sense of potential between audience and performers. We continually re-imagine our process, but always eat every four hours.

Past Piehole works have enabled us to collaborate with artists from across disciplines, including the indie-game company Tender Claws on the The Under Presents, an award-winning VR experience (Oculus). Piehole's most recent work, Christmas Mountain, a multimedia advent calendar window installation featuring animatronic puppets, and the work of 25+ artists from different disciplines, including commissioned artists Danny Cannizzaro, Toni Ann DeNoble, Erma Fiend, and Maiko Kikuchi.

Christmas Mountain premiered at WNYC's Greene Space, and featured the voice for WNYC's own Brian Lehrer, as a mouse. This project was accessible from the street as well as online. This year, we made the web-version of Christmas Mountain available once again, proudly adding our new Christmas classic to the VHS pile, alongside the Home Alone's and the Muppet Christmas Carol's of the world. Meanwhile, Piehole has been working to create a film of Christmas Mountain with footage of the window installation.

We're also back at work on Piehole's Disclaimer (Drama League nominee), which premiered at The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival on Zoom in 2021. We're adapting it to account for the Woman Life Freedom movement, and we're excited to share Disclaimer in-person in 2024.

Finally, Piehole is in the early stages for developing a new project, which may or may not involve kings, talking horses, and/or opulent tiny theaters suited for just one. We’re excited to keep writing and developing these new ideas in an upcoming workshop.

Our work is made possible through our community of supporters and donors, who fuel our bold experiments in theater by making tax-deductible donations through this site, whether on an annual or monthly basis. We appreciate whatever you can contribute. Your donations make our work possible -- and help us bring the magic and delight!

We thank you sincerely for your support over the years, and to new donors out there, thank you for considering joining our community in this way. We appreciate you!
