Pinko is a volunteer-run publishing collective committed to incisive, transformative writing on desire, struggle, and life beyond the present sexual order. We publish work that challenges the conventions of mainstream media and academic publishing—bringing together theory, personal narrative, historical analysis, and political writing rooted in lived experience.
Behind each issue of Pinko is a long and collaborative process. Our collective meets regularly to read submissions, discuss themes, and shape each publication with care. We edit every piece in-house, design each page ourselves, and manage production, printing, and distribution without external staff or institutional support. Between issues, we’re responding to readers, maintaining our website, coordinating with bookstores and archives, organizing events, and working on translations and long-form projects. This is all volunteer labor, done in the margins of our jobs and lives, because we believe deeply in this work.
But belief doesn’t cover printing costs. It doesn’t pay contributors, printers, or translators. It doesn’t cover web hosting, shipping materials, or the price of storing back issues. We run lean, but even the most stripped-down publishing operation involves real, recurring expenses. Fundraising isn’t about expansion or profit—it’s about sustaining what we’ve already built and ensuring that we can continue doing it well.
Your donations directly support the day-to-day work of keeping Pinko alive:
– Printing and shipping our physical issues
– Fairly compensating contributors, especially those whose voices are often excluded from mainstream publishing
– Translating works that would otherwise remain inaccessible
– Paying for design tools, archiving platforms, and other necessary infrastructure
– Making our work more accessible through web development, event programming, and outreach
We don’t rely on institutional grants, advertising, or venture capital. We rely on our readers. Supporting Pinko means investing in a publishing infrastructure that supports queer and leftist thinking grounded in movement experience, historical analysis, and the urgent demands of the present.
If you believe this work matters, please consider making a donation. Your support makes all the difference.
