Purpose
Pinko is now hard at work on our fifth print magazine issue, and we need your help to make it a reality. Since 2019, against all odds, we have been publishing the only dedicated English-language platform for gay communist thinking. Our next issue is our strongest yet. To get our next issue in print and into your hands, we will need to cover commissioning, printing,  and other upfront costs. Can you help today?

Background
Our wager in 2019 was that there was a critical mass of politicized gays and sexually liberated communists to require a magazine that could be a standing venue for critical reflection on the tradition of gay communism and for attempts to push this tradition into the future. That wager has since been vindicated. We have published four print issues of our magazine, zines, two standalone books, much more online, and held panels, talks and events for a dedicated audience far larger than even we had anticipated. Four issues is itself a remarkable milestone. Reaching a fifth issue is something very few projects like ours ever do. All of this has been a labor of love, and we are proud to have found our readers.

Timeline
Files are sent to the printer in June. The project infrastructure runs on low-cost printing, precariously employed volunteer writers, designers and editors, but, in addition to our ever-present overhead costs, we do attempt to strike a dignified balance in how we pay contributing artists and writers. Every dollar beyond our initial goal goes toward our general operating costs and laying the groundwork for Issue 6.

Commission and Print Issue Five - $15,000
The next issue will showcase some of the sharpest writing and thinking we've published yet. We have pieces on the question of national liberation and the Rainbow Coalition, sexual difference and the communist maxim of equality, anti-colonial homophobia and the logic of witch hunts in Uganda, lesbian separatism, and much, much more. We are so excited to be able to share it with readers. But to make that happen, we'll need your help. We've set the goal at $10k to start, but that is actually the floor. It will take $15,000 to print, comission, and ship Issue Five.

Stretch Goals:

Legal Defense Fund - $65,000

The current political environment has made legal counsel an urgent necessity for a publication like ours. We are naming it here as an emergent priority and will be launching a dedicated legal defense fund campaign later this year. Every additional dollar raised toward this goal now is a head start.
