About

Peoples, Land, agriCultures, Ecologies [PLaCE] is growing food, habitat, and community in the upland hills of the ancestral Mohican homelands (Copake, NY) in order to rebuild human to human, human to Wild, and Wild to Wild relationships. We work with the land and its many communities in order to build these relationships and create shared prosperity and a vibrant future for all.

We host workshops, community events, and family-friendly residencies with Native and non-Native instructors to teach participants ways of being in reciprocal relationship with plants and the land as well as build community and indigenous-settler relationships. In support of this we cultivate and sell native plants that have a history of human use as food, herbs, and/or crafting materials. Each of these plants is an invitation for human connection and carries with it co-evolved relationships with native insects and the entire food web they support.

The driving question for PLaCE is, “How can we serve the Wild in the process of meeting human needs?” (not in spite of human needs).
