Plastic Ashes is a multimedia performance company based in Highland Park, Los Angeles, creating original ensemble works at full spectacle scale — live music, theatre, dance, taiko, and projection mapping, woven into a single experience. We make ambitious, genre-crossing performance outside traditional institutions, built with and for the communities of Northeast Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley.
Our current production is The Ballad of Isolde, an original electro-folk-rock hero myth — a rite of passage told at full scale, following one heroine's coming of age through live music, dance, and taiko inside an immersive projection-mapped world. The show has played sold-out runs at MiViDa in Frogtown and the Lodge Room in Highland Park, and we are now raising funds to mount its first fully realized extended run in 2026–2027 — complete ensemble, full design, proper rehearsal time, and fair pay for every working artist on stage and behind it.
Our company is an ensemble of working artists from across music, theatre, dance, taiko, film, and design — performers, composers, choreographers, and makers with deep professional roots who have chosen to build something together at home. What unites us is a belief that spectacle-scale original work belongs in our own neighborhoods, priced so our neighbors can see it.
Alongside performance, we open our creative process to the public through movement and Viewpoints-based exploratory workshops — collective practices of time, space, and presence that use the tools of ensemble performance to examine greater human truths: how we move together, how we listen, how we belong to a place and to each other.
