PLEASE PURGE POLITELY is a dark comedy that asks questions that come up around healing, spirituality, wellness culture, and who actually gets access to care. What does it mean to sell healing as a luxury when so many people are simply trying to survive?
At a luxurious ayahuasca retreat, an overworked young mother (Laurel) is barely holding it together. Between caring for her daughter with cystic fibrosis, mounting medical bills, rude clients, and a taxing job that pays very little... she's got plenty to purge. After being coerced into joining a ceremony meant for wealthy guests, Laurel is forced to confront the impossible weight she has been carrying alone. She steals a wealthy guest's engagement ring, and then joins that same guest into a ceremony where she takes a psychedelic journey through motherhood, mortality, and the mysterious interconnectedness of women. This all leads Laurel to confront the one thing she refuses to do: let someone help her.
