About

Portraits of Immigrants

Angered by the maligning of immigrants that started with the 2016 Presidential election and, sadly, continues throughout much of America today,  artist/journalist Betsy Ashton found immigrants all around her who did not fit the negative image. She decided to interview, sketch and paint them, to show Americans the real story of todays' immigrants. It's one of struggles and sacrifices that most native born Americans cannot imagine. It is also one of amazing accomplishments by ordinary people.

MISSION:
Through exhibitions that began in May, 2018, shut down in March, 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but resumed in April, 2021, the artist hopes to balance the story of these newcomers by displaying their humanity. She aims to change attitudes and remove fears with art and understanding.
