Me and Stepin’ follows the actor as he humorously journeys through years of side-splitting frustration and disappointment while seeking work in show business. However, Richie’s life is forever changed when he’s visited by the spirit of the black film star, Lincoln Theodore Monroe Andrew Perry, who created the notorious character of "Stepin' Fetchit". “...What the hell was that about? “It’s like in A Christmas Carol: The ghost of Negroes past.” From the visit Richie discovers a nuanced narrative that transforms his perspective and he realizes that what he had perceived as demeaning work was actually a display of remarkable skill and strategic ambition by the actor.
