About

About Us
Protest Magazine is a submission-based, indy publication led by the BIWOC community. We explore the subtle and big ways we advocate for ourselves and others in our daily lives. Protest highlights women's perspectives of culture, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, class, and other social constructs, through creative mediums. We encourage marginalized women to bring their sociological theories, life experiences, and creative ideas into the physical plane.

Issue One: Mercy Issue
Our premiere issue, the Mercy Issue, concentrated on healing, regeneration, and recovery. In Mercy Issue, Tamanika speaks about bouncing back after serving time. Therapist and Reiki Priestess Leotha Foster talks about the power of giving our experiences a voice, and Sally Hassan speaks on mental illness and her Muslim identity. can purchase a digital copy of Mercy here.

Issue Two: Communication Issue
We're excited to announce that submissions for our second issue are open! Issue No 2 follows the theme of communication, we'll dissect anything from African American Vernacular, body language, communication through appearances, and even prayer as a form of conversation. Woman-identifying individuals of all experience levels are encouraged to submit their work. Click here to submit your work to be considered for the Communication Issue.

*We accept essays, articles, interview proposals, short fiction and nonfiction, and poetry. As well as sketches, illustrations, paintings, and photography pieces. If you have any questions, email us at submitpromag@gmail.com.

Community Sustainability
As an independent publication, Protest is always in need of and grateful for assistance from supporters. Our goal is to create an ecosystem in which money, general resources, and emotional and professional support continuously circulate among its cohabitants. Most of the money we raise is used to compensate Protest  Magazine contributors; the rest will be dispersed between general operation costs, printing services, and promotion. Here's a list of some ways your donation will help Protest Magazine grow and sustain:

  • Wages for contributors (writers, artists, curators, and consultants)
  • Website maintenance and general admin costs
  • Computer software & programs
  • Raw materials
  • Promotion and advertising
  • Printing physical copies of Protest

We appreciate your support and hope to connect with you.
