Quartet121 is a New York City- and Philadelphia-based string quartet fiercely committed to innovative works and inclusive programming. Molly Germer (violin), Julia Jung Un Suh (violin), Lena Vidulich (viola), and Thea Mesirow (cello) met while pursuing their master’s degrees in the Contemporary Performance Program at Manhattan School of Music. In Quartet121’s official first season they performed alongside critically acclaimed ensembles MIVOS Quartet and TAK, joined Japanese Breakfast for two sold-out shows at Brooklyn Steel, and visited the Columbia University Music Department as guest performers. Quartet121 received a full scholarship to participate in the July, 2019 Evolution of the String Quartet festival at BANFF in Alberta, Canada.
ABOUT OUR UPCOMING SEASON
Quartet121 is planning bigger and more exciting projects for the 2019-2020 season. In order to make it possible, we need your help! As an artist-run organization, we rely on private donors to support costs, such as travel fees and concert space rentals.
This upcoming season Quartet121 is planning two programs that we will perform in New York City and Philadelphia. In the fall we will present Georg Friedrich Haas’s concert-length third string quartet, In iij. Nocht, which is performed entirely in the dark. Our Spring concert will feature a program centered around Nils Vigeland’s work for string quartet and two pianos, Sailing to Byzantium. The upcoming season also includes a string quartet seminar at the Banff Centre and visits to the composition departments at Manhattan School of Music and UPenn to workshop new pieces for string quartet.
Your donation will expand opportunities for us to present fresh and innovative music. We hope that you become part of our community today by donating any amount.
