Raised in a basement, fed on radioactive trash, Brooklyn-based Rat Queen Theatre Company creates devised musicals that reimagine American history. We believe that the most widely taught historical narratives are neglectful of the truth and, honestly -- boring. We use history to question everyone’s assumptions (including our own) about the origins of our society. In order to do this, we make work that is nonhierarchical and collaborative in its method of construction. When making plays about history, we believe it’s essential to give all of the artists involved agency in building the architecture of the story. Utilizing the unabashedly loud, queer, and ostentatious, we set out to disassemble our country’s legacy of capitalism and individualism.
