'Rebel Rebel' Short Film

A short film about rebellion, mentorship and belonging.

About

THE STORY:

Facing bullying on her first day in an all-girl catholic school, a rebellious teen plots to get expelled by drawing a naked nun on the bathroom's mirror. When she is summoned to the principal’s office to confront the no-nonsense head-nun — things take a surprising turn.

Rebel Rebel Poster

Written and directed by Tamar Pelzig, Rebel Rebel is an homage to a teacher who changed her life: As a shy kid with selective mutism, she didn’t feel a sense of belonging in school, and an empathetic teacher found a way to reach her and hear her voice despite the silence. Tamar was forever changed, and this story seeks to express that deep heartfelt exchange between a teacher and student.

Rebel Rebel brought together a group of fierce artists, an all-female cast, a predominantly female and/or ethnically diverse crew & immigrants seeking to belong, and all worked together to create this story that shed a light on ART and the ones who champion it.

By highlighting an exchange between a teacher and student, Rebel Rebel seeks to inspire empathy and connection, and if the last few years taught us anything... is that we all benefit from connecting with one another. With all of our societal challenges, it is our deep sense of humanity that has the potential to bridge our gaps.

We have our eyes set on reaching large audiences with Rebel Rebel, to emotionally impact and start an important conversation on teachers. Our goal is to screen the film in as many film festivals as we can, worldwide. The more reach we have, the more impact this story can make.
