About

Julia Ward Howe, author of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, is up at 4:00am.  The suffragist and human rights activist is rehearsing a talk she’s about to give to the Boston Radical Club on representation for women, and she has some pointed questions for her audience.  Her eyes have seen the glory! – a vision of America greater than the Founding Fathers’.  But she declares, “There is no America for us women.  For us, it is Russia.  It is tyranny.”  Prophetically, she foresees our nation’s crisis today, when she says that one day we will lose our democracy, if this remains an America for some of us, not an America for all of us. The stakes are high, and what – Julia demands to know – are we doing about it?  The visionary politics of Julia Ward Howe resonate with our own time. Collaborators Elaine Vaan Hogue (actor), Judy Braha (director), and Joyce Van Dyke (playwright) are touring this performance and call to action—in historical venues, churches, living rooms, art centers, schools, rural settings, theaters and town squares.  Enthusiastic audiences greeted us at Hardwick Town House, UFPC Church of The Presidents in Quincy, and the Becket Arts Center--"The play is a call to action, reminding us that the struggle for representation has been a long and continuous one. We all need to make our voices heard."  We're excited to announce upcoming fall performances at Rocky Hill Meeting House in Amesbury MA, The Old South Meeting House in Boston, United Solo Festival in NYC. Please help us bring this timely performance to communities, small and large.  Donations of any amount are appreciated!  Join us in this cry to action!
