It's 1977. Bowie just released 'Heroes'. DANIKA SEBRING, still in high school, jets from Berlin to New York City for a gig as a backup acrobat in his show on the Bowery. Within a year she's made the gossip columns: modeling in Vogue, camping with Marlon Brando, dancing 'til dawn with Warhol. She shoots to stardom in the #1 network cop show: WHAT'S SHE DOING? But one afternoon, mid-cartwheel on a soundstage, she kicks a spotlight, fracturing her own skull. By 2019 Danika sleeps on her friend Sylvie's sofa in Brooklyn. With her former co-star Ezio Mancini, she plans an escape to Santa Cruz, California to join his Climate Activist crew. In the midst of a commercial photoshoot, she grabs a huge roll of money from Sylvie's handbag, escapes on foot, jumps into a truck and heads west.
This is the intro to Danika Lives! my comedy tv series about climate change. It takes place in 1978 and 2019, in California and New York City - and follows a group of friends through decades of work and love. At the height of their fame on a popular television series, they learned together that they care more about the environment...and pledge to work reunite to save the ocean and the redwoods. But when they do, the landscape they remember from decades earlier is changed and they must act quickly.
I'm working with a group of performers I've worked with for years - I know their gifts and the beauty they can give. Added to the mix now is a DP/Steadicam pro with a lifetime of professional experience. We are shooting first scenes for a video to demonstrate the these complex and wondrous interconnected lives. We'll shoot a Proof of Concept short film in Brooklyn first, and then another in Santa Cruz, California. Everyone involved in dedicated to making this world come to life.
