We are seeking funding for an upcoming recording project featuring soprano Rhoslyn Jones and accomplished pianist Jodi Goble. The project aims to capture and preserve a unique collaboration between these two exceptional artists by recording a collection of original compositions by Jodi Goble, specifically tailored to showcase Rhoslyn Jones. “Circle of Light” includes seven meditations for soprano and piano set with poetry by Rainer Maria Rilke and will be recorded at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music using their state of the art recording and production facilities.

Circle of Light; Seven Meditations for soprano written by Jodi Goble for Rhoslyn Jones, soprano.

The primary goal of this project is to produce a high-quality recording that showcases this new music and to amplify the work of female-identifying composers and musicians. Rhoslyn has spent a lot of her career in both singing and teaching shedding light on music that has been previously underrepresented. She plans to explore the idea of recording music written by female-identifying musicians who she feels a close connection with, whether they are still living or not.

Through her research, she has found that many female composers were not only overlooked when it comes to the historical canon of music, but that sometimes their ambition to be seen and heard was often silenced or slowed because of the perceived duties and responsibilities of women of their time. Many of them turned to teaching, and through their mentorship were able to inspire and uplift their students while showcasing their compositions and gifts.

This is something that Rhoslyn closely identifies with as both an internationally recognized soprano and sought after voice teacher. The opportunity to record and collaborate with other women on this project and future recordings will be an important step to bring the work of these women to the forefront of musical education.

The recording will take place at the esteemed San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a venue known for its state-of-the-art recording facilities. The project will involve professional recording engineers, producers, and technicians to ensure the highest quality recording. Post-production work will focus on refining the recordings to meet industry standards and create a polished final product.

Once completed, the recording will be distributed through various channels, including digital platforms and streaming services. A targeted promotional campaign will be implemented to maximize the reach and impact of the recording.

This will be the first step in a multi-level project to unearth, create, record, perform, and publish works by female identifying composers, recorded by female-identifying and non-binary musicians.

Future plans include a recording of Swedish composer Amanda Maier’s songs for voice and piano with San Francisco Opera Center Artistic Director and renowned pianist, Carrie-Ann Matheson. Future plans to record music by Clara Schumann, Alma Mahler, Cecilia Livingston, Carlotta Ferrari, Florence B. Price, Amy Beach, and more will be upcoming.

The proposed budget for the first step of this project is $3000 which includes expenses for recording sessions, composition fees, production costs, post-production, distribution, and promotional activities.
