Rockaway Art Room exists to make art accessible, joyful, and public in the Rockaways.
We are a new community art program, fiscally sponsored by a nonprofit, offering free, intergenerational visual arts classes in the Rockaways. Right now, our neighborhood has limited affordable arts programming, and Rockaway Art Room was created to help fill that gap by offering warm & welcoming, no-cost opportunities to make art together. Our classes—ranging from painting and sculpture to found-object art—are open to community members of all ages and experience levels.
Classes are led by professional artists and are designed to be fun, relaxed, and centered on the joy of making things together. Teaching artists are paid a fair wage for their time, skill, and care, because supporting artists is essential to a healthy and thriving community.
Rockaway Art Room was founded by Jamie Soltis, a Queens-based artist and arts administrator with a background in theater, education, and nonprofit work. Through weekly classes, shared materials, and inclusive learning spaces, this program nurtures creativity, connection, and community care in the Rockaways.
Rockaway Art Room is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Rockaway Art Room must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
