WHAT IS THIS SHOW ABOUT?
ROOMIES is a darkly funny solo show about identity and friendship. It's based on a true story, written and performed by Julia Stephens.
-----
It's blends solo storytelling with traditional theatre, flashback, and innovative sound technique. It's glamorous, dark, funny, spooky, and mistakably LA.

FROM L.A. TO EDINBURGH.
In August 2024, Julia traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland, independently to research the Edinburgh Fringe Festival firsthand.
The creative team was assembled in early 2025.
Rehearsals began in September 2025 in Manhattan and continued for seven rigorous weeks.
In October 2025, a two-night presentation of ROOMIES previewed at The Flea Theater in Tribeca.
ROOMIES was awarded a grant from the City of West Hollywood to support Julia’s journey to the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe. The show was selected for performance at The Elysian Theater in Los Angeles (June 2026). The ROOMIES team plans to present a short preview run in NYC (July 2026).
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is a month-long performing arts festival held each August in Scotland’s capital city. Today, nearly 4,000 shows are presented, with artists traveling from across the globe.
Edinburgh has served as an early platform for some of the most celebrated contemporary works, including Baby Reindeer, Fleabag, Flight of the Conchords, Six the Musical, and the early performances of Mr. Bean.
ROOMIES was selected from thousands of applicants to perform at the Underbelly, widely regarded as one of the festival’s top venues. From August 5 through August 31, Julia will perform ROOMIES with one night off -- that's 26 performances over four weeks!
Throughout the festival, the show will be seen by industry professionals from the UK and the United States, including producers, presenters, and press. Many attend Fringe specifically to identify work for transfer to London’s West End, New York stages, and television development.
