Rooted in Durham: America’s First Black Wall Street is a feature-length documentary that uncovers the rich legacy of Durham’s Hayti district, a thriving Black community that existed long before Tulsa’s Wall Street. Through interviews, archival footage, and personal storytelling, the film reclaims a powerful history that was strategically dismantled by racism and systemic erasure. This project seeks to preserve memory, uplift community voices, and spark new conversations around legacy, land, and cultural pride.
