About

You can make help make celebration, reflection, and release possible in 2023.

With your help, Seven Stages will launch its largest and most historic, year-long undertaking-- Bard Bash.

Why?
Portsmouth, NH's founding in 1623 coincides with the publication of the single most important book in the history of modern theater, Shakespeare’s First Folio-- the first published collection of Shakespeare's plays, produced seven years after his death.

What?
What is the city but the people?
~CORIOLANUS
  • Bard Bash will celebrate the people of Portsmouth as we partner with 12 different organizations (and the people who shaped them) that played a key role in the history of Portsmouth.

How?
All the world's a stage
~AS YOU LIKE IT
  • There are 36 plays in Shakespeare's First Folio.
  • We've curated a journey through all 36 by matching up 3 specific plays with 1 of each of our 12 different venues.
  • 3 plays at each venue. 1 venue per month. 1 ensemble of 15 artists.

Bard Bash will have you traveling from theaters, to warehouses, to churches, to lawns, and by December 2023 you will have traveled the world of your imagination with Shakespeare as you travel literally through Portsmouth, NH.

Through Bard Bash, we'll reflect on, revel in, and in some cases release our shared history while we dream ourselves forward into a better future, created together.

7SSC's is committed to illuminating William Shakespeare's work and continuing influence through artistically excellent and financially accessible productions and programs created to engage, enliven, and enlighten both company and community. We believe there should be no barriers to experiencing art, and to that end- everything we do is FREE FOR ALL, Or Pay What You Will. This means donors, sponsors, foundation funders, and folks like YOU make it possible for people to engage in unique, challenging, and meaningful theatrical experiences that leave them with more thought-provoking and conversation-inducing questions than answers.
