Shai Wetzer is a professional drummer and percussionist based in Brooklyn. Born and raised in Israel, he started playing at the age of twelve in classical orchestras and went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Shai has performed and recorded with a wide range of musical artists across multiple genres, including the legendary Israeli pop-rock band Kaveret and several of its members. He has performed in Europe, South Africa, South America, Canada, Israel, and the United States. He is known for his dynamic and versatile playing style that seamlessly blends different musical traditions and styles.
Shai’s new album, You Can Hear It Your Own Way, is a sonic voyage through languages, cultures and imagination blending traditions, styles, and musical instruments from Yemen, Morocco, Israel, and the wider Arab and Western worlds.
This groundbreaking new alternative world pop album aims to celebrate artistic collaboration while modelling the richness of difference. Each track opens a doorway to a new place, weaving together an immersive, moving, genre-defying journey. Through recording and live performance, he invites audiences to listen deeply and connect across difference. Shai firmly believes that music can open space for empathy and understanding in a divided world.
In a time marked by noise, distraction, and disconnection, You Can Hear It Your Own Way reminds us all that music can be a unifying force - not only a sound, but a place where emotion, not language, prevails. At its heart, this album carries a narrative of love and hope in our dizzy, spinning world.
