About

Shearwater was formed in Austin, Texas in 1999, and has since released a whole lot of music, including three albums for Matador Records—Palo Santo (2006), Rook (2008), and The Golden Archipelago (2010), and three for Sub Pop Records—Animal Joy (2012), Fellow Travelers (2014), and Jet Plane and Oxbow (2016), as well as the self-released The Great Awakening (2022), the instrumental Quarantine Music series (2020-22), and the upcoming The New World (2026). The last three were produced and sustained by crowdfunding initiatives. We've performed hundreds of shows across the United States and Europe during that time, and been praised by media including (but not limited to) The New York Times, Pitchfork, BBC6, The Guardian, and NPR's All Songs Considered. But most importantly, we're here because we love to record and perform our music, and we want to *keep* recording and performing, even as the times grow ever more difficult for independent artists.
