Shit Kickers is a hilarious short film about four irreverent women in a
retirement home who refuse to surrender quietly to aging, mortality, or
society's expectations.
Written and directed by acclaimed playwright Lyle Kessler at age 90, the
film begins when a newcomer approaches a card game and asks to join
three formidable women. Instead of welcoming her, they challenge her to
prove herself. They convince her that Death is present, and if not defied,
will claim her too. What follows is a wickedly funny and surprisingly moving
rebellion against Death itself.
Adapted from a one-act play that played to sold-out NY audiences, Shit
Kickers combines sharp comedy, wild imagination, and heartfelt humanity.
The film stars Margaret Ladd, Leslie Fleming-Mitchell, Mary Powelson, and
Sachi Parker—four accomplished New York actors bringing Kessler's
unforgettable characters to life.
At a time when stories centered on older women remain rare, Shit Kickers
celebrates courage, friendship, defiance, and the enduring power of
imagination. Through film festival screenings and public exhibition, the
project will bring this audience-loved story to a wider audience while
preserving a remarkable new work by one of America's most respected
playwrights.
All funds received will directly support the film production, helping us bring
this bold, funny, and deeply human story to the screen.
