Using fun songs and light humor, I want to get people in the seats and catch them unawares.
Without beating them over the head, I want to introduce them to the idea that we have more in common with other peoples than we think. The audience is meant to see themselves in the underdog characters, as the story was written originally. But these characters are also addressing issues that are relevant and meaningful today among other groups of people. In this way I intend to create empathy without the audience even realizing it.
