Sideways is an artist-run studio and progressive education program. We focus on Art and Nature connection experiences in Columbia County (NY) and Berkshire County (MA). Offering accessible opportunities and creative space to children and artists with developmental and intellectual disabilities, Sideways promotes playful experimentation while instilling a sense of wonder within learning spaces. Aiming to validate children’s identities as artists and individuals, Sideways encourages intergenerational and community collaboration. Through partnering with local teaching artists, programs support the development of innovative projects and broaden the scope of research and possibility within the program.
Sideways is committed to offering accessible educational opportunities to individuals nearby, regardless of finances or budget. This means all of our programs are free or sliding scale to attend. We believe deeply in arts access and are working towards community building as well as, establishing creative networks in rural places.
We rely entirely on donations and grants to fund Sideways programs. Donations will directly support all Sideways program costs, such as: art materials, facilities, studio equipment, healthy snacks, teaching artist stipends and the subsidization of attendance fees. At the moment, Sideways offers after school programs and individualized workshops at local organizations and community centers. However, we're eager to establish a home base where consistent and reliable programming can occur! Donations will also support this goal and help us secure a studio location where we can offer regular programming in Columbia County.
