Slam Wide Open is a program of Black Hole Theatre projects developed with artists connected to our series Slam Noir. This updated program again explores visually driven theatre and contemporary puppetry, highlights the scope and depth of the artform, and encourages artists to explore new ideas and develop their practice. Sourced in history, politics, science and art, the projects range from children’s work to opera. They are developed in collaboration with communities, local, regional and international artists, and First Nations writers, performers, musicians and filmmakers. The projects are funny, serious, provocative and wild. They have all begun in Melbourne and are reaching national and international audiences.
Our audience covers a wide demographic: young primary school children, their teachers and families, staff running library and community programs, families seeking entertainment, communities interested in developing and presenting their own stories, artists interested in innovative approaches to form and content, and sophisticated adult audiences eager for provocative, bold theatrical experiences.
