About

Sleepy Boy is a short film exploring themes of memory and Black love, both familial and romantic.

Sleepy Boy centers around a young man's experience at his grandparents' home in Scarborough, Ontario.

The story follows Franklin during a summer visit to see his grandparents in Scarborough, Ontario. While seeping into the slow mundaneness of his grandparents’ home, he begins to experience a series of increasingly vivid dreams that seem to seamlessly blend in with reality. In these dreams, Franklin reconnects with a former love named Raquel, while also being transported to places both familiar and foreign at different stages of his life.

The project is being written and directed by Nathaniel Bahadursingh, based on his own memories growing up and the summers spent in his family house in Scarborough. It is important for the filmmaker to shoot the film on location in Ontario to preserve the authenticity of the story, which was developed with a strong sense of place in mind. Filming there also allows the filmmaker to stay true to his personal memories and experiences.

We hope that the funds raised through your donation will help cover production expenses such as equipment rentals, accommodation, in addition to food and craft services.
