Solidarity Sessions SF brings a 20-year proven methodology—piloted at San Francisco's Red Poppy Art Space, scaled nationally during the pandemic, and recently funded with $27,000 by Upstate Creative Corps for rural Nevada County—back home to serve downtown San Francisco's revitalization. Led by Bay Area-born artist Michelle Amador, this project combines professional musical performance of original solidarity-themed songs, structured civic dialogue using Western States Center's Inclusive Democracy framework, and participatory open mic with artist stipends. Four quarterly sessions plus two Musician's Inclusive Practice workshops will serve 100 participants across Tenderloin, SoMa, Civic Center, and Mid-Market, creating broadcast-quality documentation to participating artists, and proving that the community-building practices that thrive in rural areas—regular face-to-face gathering, intergenerational connection, and creative participation—can heal urban isolation and transform downtown neighborhoods into places of community connection.
