Songs of a Lifetime is a charitable performing arts initiative that brings professional live vocal music to seniors living in nursing homes, assisted-living communities, memory-care facilities, retirement communities, and other senior-care settings. The project is designed to make meaningful live artistic experiences available to seniors who may have limited opportunities to attend concerts, theaters, churches, community events, or other cultural programs because of mobility limitations, health concerns, transportation barriers, financial limitations, or institutional living. Through Songs of a Lifetime, professional singer and songwriter Tim Schwarz will present live concerts specifically designed for senior audiences. Programming may include well-known music from the 1940s through today, standards, Broadway selections, country music, inspirational and sacred music, popular songs, holiday programming, and other repertoire selected for the interests and experiences of participating residents. Concerts are intended to be more than passive entertainment. Performances encourage participation, memory, conversation, singing, emotional connection, and shared experiences among residents, families, caregivers, and staff. Many senior-care communities have limited activity and entertainment budgets. Songs of a Lifetime therefore seeks charitable contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations, community organizations, and other supporters so that participating facilities can receive live music regardless of their ability to pay the full cost of presenting a concert. Donor support will subsidize or fully fund performances at qualifying senior-care communities. The long-term goal of Songs of a Lifetime is to create a sustainable donor-supported program capable of providing recurring live music experiences to seniors throughout the San Antonio region and, as funding and partnerships grow, additional communities throughout Texas and beyond.
