New York based singer/songwriter, Morgan James, infuses soul and the roots of rhythm and blues into everything she does. If she and her fans have learned anything over the course of her extensive career, it’s that no matter where she goes, she brings the soul with her.
Morgan's 6th studio album, "Soul Remains the Same" is an electrifying soul revival tour through some of her own guilty pleasure favorites: heavy rock and metal songs of the 80s and 90s, through the lens of classic soul. She seeks to find the soul and through-line of these (all male) songs, and infuse her own femininity and strength into the music.
The title of the album is a nod to a Led Zeppelin song, and it conjures the notion that the soul of any good song is what unites us, and that we are all searching for that One Great Song; that regardless of genre, the music is telling one great story. The album features ten iconic hits from the 80s and 90s, that are united in theme and in melodic prowess: "Sad But True" by Metallica, "The Day I Tried to Live" by Soundgarden, "Something I Could Never Have" by Nine Inch Nails, and many more. The album features a four horn section (comprised of Juilliard Jazz students), soulful arrangements by Doug Wamble, keys by frequent collaborator Julius Rodriquez, an incredible live band (with three different rock drummers) and signature Morgan James vocals and BGV.
To accompany the album, Morgan will be creating "behind the music" type episodes highlighting each song and the original artists, in addition to three music videos to match the three main focus tracks/singles. The money raised will be used for everything from production (musicians, studio, mixing, and mastering), to manufacturing (cds, vinyl, tees, etc), video and art content, and a large portion will go to a press and marketing campaign to get the album heard.
Equally at home in front of a full symphony Orchestra, or in the back of a dive bar, Ms. James was made to make music. She boasts 12 albums in 12 years, over 300 million YouTube views, and most importantly, an extensive touring career that puts her on stage in front of live audiences every single night. She’s unafraid to tackle iconic artists and covers, in addition to her own deeply personal songs. And regardless of the genre, she’s here to remind you, the "Soul Remains the Same”.
