In Brooklyn, on the corner of White and Seigel Streets, one block from the L train at Morgan Avenue, non commercial imagery expands the vision of an artist, or a specific work of art, through a 25 x 17' illuminated sign space for hand painted mural. Simple one or two color graphics work best. We paint the image for you, and see how the neighborhood responds.
The average age in Bushwick is 27. On our block, teenager traffic is high. If you have a mandate or interest in reaching NYC youth at street level, we have space for that. Our first project, OUT OF OFFICE with Eleanor King, describes the political climate in September 2019, on the eve of an impeachment inquiry. We are also open to murals that promote non profits, and specific exhibitions in a museum or foundation.
Documentation of this Canadian conceptual art project is an artist book, made with Risolve Studios in Lancaster PA, printed with a process called RISO, a Japanese method for duplicating color-separated images in a manner similar to screen printing. Read more about it here. Copies are available at Topos Booksellers & Cafe in Ridgewood.
The second mural was initiated by Colossal Media. RESPECT with The Urban Indigenous Collective, brings awareness the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Transgender, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWGT2S NYC+). The project draws attention to a a task force to address this crisis, beginning with the formation of database.
Technical requirements vary from project to project. Once the decision to produce a mural is made, the drawing is scaled up, with a centuries old techniques called 'pounce' (or 'spolvero' in Michaelangelo's day), bringing the idea to the world, through a large scale, hand painted mural.
Your donation helps to offset costs for the project. In addition to keeping the lights on and the space itself, our costs include pre-production that could include graphic design and fundraising, lifts, a professional painter to transfer the image to the wall. Post production includes documentation, graphic design for riso printing and distribution.
In March 2023 we reset the project with Ephraim Gabre who, at the tender age of 23, can literally paint anything.
