Stephanie Gardner is an indie filmmaker who seeks to create works of artistic expression in attempts to connect individuals across cultures; to encourage viewers to step outside their environment & comfort zones; to provide a portal through the medium of film; to look upon the world in an open light; to encourage viewers to question things and promote understanding. She seeks to bring films to communities around the world in hopes to spark discourse and encourage dialogue across cultures.
Stephanie is raising funds for the 33 and Me Filmmakers Festival in the Lehigh Valley, PA this Sept. 22-30, which will showcase films made by 33 global film directors. We'll host panels, masterclasses, workshops, parties & networking events. The festival is open to the community so everyone can learn from the filmmakers. “Cultural Coffee” events allow locals to meet the filmmakers to learn about their countries & cultures. Filmmakers will attend from Argentina, Montenegro, Zimbabwe, Romania, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Uganda, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Nepal, Guyana, Uzbekistan, Jamaica, Mexico, Iceland.
In 2018, Stephanie launched 33 and Me to travel to 33 countries to meet & get to know 33-year-old filmmakers from each country. She engaged with & documented the directors to explore their lives, careers, cultures, histories & landscapes. She explored how the filmmakers’ storytelling influences their societies and how the films impact their communities. 33 and Me captures the voices of a generation of storytellers from around the world.
“Many of the filmmakers we meet through 33 and Me are not just making movies, they are giving back to their communities, perhaps in much bigger ways than they may realize, by fighting for their stories, overcoming all odds to make films that represent their societies & by doing so, they are giving voice to entire nations.“
“33 and Me features directors who are revolutionaries, individuals who are building up their country’s film industry from scratch, filmmakers who are challenging the norms, auteurs who have survived wars to go on to tell their stories, filmmakers who continue to fight for their freedoms through the stories they tell. We encounter hope & despair, inspiration and devotion, struggles & survival & strength beyond compare.”
