My mission for my One Black Woman StoryTelling Services is to help working-class adult and older teen beginners and the self-taught unlock, tell, and refine their stories --- personal and imagined --- by providing diverse StoryTelling curriculum and formats that are fun, game-like, and inspire creative expression, personal self-growth, and new skills development.
Because my target students are those who might initially feel stress if asked to come up with their own stories, I have developed StoryTelling Lessons based on ‘De-Construction’. The initial hook is to have participants study stories written or lived by others. The Lesson formats include the Story Sharing Game; The StoryTellers Film Club; The StoryTellers Lessons Workbook; and ‘Nurturing The Creative Spirit’ Talks w/ Artists (shared in podcast episodes).
Coupled with the StoryTellers Lessons I am also inventing a StoryTellers League Mythology with the creation of colorful, striking images of imagined StoryTellers (wearing the ST uniform colors and logo) to use on merchandise – buttons, stickers, tote bags, t-shirts, caps. These items will create a rewards system that recognizes participants when they stay with the project and become peer teachers. It will also create a public sense of special identity for participants when asked by others about the merchandise.
