Founded by Robert Anderson and Jacob Szekely in 2006, String Project LA (SPLA) was the first school in America solely dedicated to creative string playing and alternative styles for bowed string players. Over the 12-year period, the school hosted over 200 workshops featuring the top names in Jazz, Rock, Fiddle, and ethnic violin and cello, as well as in the community in conjunction with every major musical not-for-profit that existed during that time.
SPLA featured a revolutionary 5-point curriculum designed to inspire, empower and honor the individual voice of all of it's students (qualities rarely stressed in orchestral and or traditional classical instruction) through group classes (Alternative String Groups), private instruction, camps, their Rock Youth Orchestra and eventually the founding of the Los Angeles Creative String Festival.
While SPLA's physical location no longer exists, Mr Szekely and String Project Los Angeles is still extremely active in the Los Angeles Community and online through the LA Creative String Festival.
