This project will sustain the practice of allowing the general public to visit and experience the creative environment known as Studio JBONE and efforts required to exhibit a selection of inspiring sculptures at public events in the region. The combination of natural beauty and the raw sculpture that is carefully sited throughout Studio JBONE creates a calm atmosphere. Newly created gardens add to the healing properties that visitors often comment on. Young and old alike enjoy interacting with the large sculptures and those with time on their hands often find a particular seating spot to take time and reflect.
One feature of this cultural destination is that the artist is always present and available to answer questions. Inspiration is often expressed in comments left by visitors, likely due to the impact from the observation of what one man has created.
JBONE is also the creator of multiple public installations throughout Maine and beyond. His most ambitious is El Faro Salute!. This public memorial is a tribute to the 33 souls that were lost to the sea when the SS EL Faro encountered Hurricane Joaquin in 2015. JBONE is a past merchant mariner and felt a sense of obligation to put his gift to good use to honor his professional maritime brothers and sisters while providing a source of comfort for those struggling with the loss.
